This week on Teen Talk Radio, I’ll be talking with Ken Raney, Ben Avery, and Rob Woodrum. We’re going to be talking about the place for comics in the Christian entertainment industry.
Ken Raney (Clash Entertainment):
“At Clash Entertainment we strive to provide teenagers with access to excellent, enlightening, and even edifying entertainment media that will, at the least, not undermine their faith; we want to provide Christian creatives with an outlet to use their gifts for the Lord and His Kingdom; and we want to provide Christian publishers and production companies with access to the teen market, something that has been very difficult in the past. We believe that soon the window of opportunity will be flung wide open and we will see an explosion of excellent entertainment media for teens.”

Ben Avery: A believer in the need for positive, all-ages entertainment, Ben Avery created and wrote Zondervan’s graphic novel series TimeFlyz and the comic book miniseries ArmorQuest to entertain readers with an exciting story, but also inspire and encourage readers to stand up and make a difference in their world. Avery’s comic book career began when he was selected by George R.R. Martin to work as the script adaptor of the comic book fantasy mini-series The Hedge Knight, based on novellas by the New York Times bestselling author. After that, Avery went on to co-write/co-create the critically acclaimed Lullaby and The Imaginaries for Image Comics, co-create and write the children’s literature inspired fantasy The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles, develop and write the historical epicKingdoms for Zondervan, and the sequel mini-series The Hedge Knight II, published by Marvel Comics. In addition to writing, he has been an English teacher, a college resident director, and a youth treatment specialist for sexually abused children. Avery lives in Indiana with his wife and four children.

Rob Woodrum: Pastor/ comic book artist / illustrator who lives in Florida.
“I’ve ALWAYS wanted to draw comics, it’s my earliest memory. My first major comic book project was executed with crayons on a hallway wall in the house I grew up in. It was an epic tale done without dialogue because I didn’t know how to write yet. It received a pretty poor review from my mom. Nevertheless, I persevered and drew a comic strip for a local paper for several years, and a youth pastor comic for Group Magazine for 11 years after that…so I guess we know who was right between me and my mom.”
